Gary Hicks: historian of the lottery

'The Library has been absolutely indispensable while researching my book on the history of the lottery.

The access for all policy is such an intelligent way of managing this great national resource. It also creates a marvellous atmosphere of learning. The place absolutely buzzes. You've got teenagers beavering away alongside old age pensioners, TV researchers, authors of all kinds, distinguished scholars. Access for all is really essential.

I hope the Government never gives it up and it is retained.'
