Information on projects funded in 2003 and 2004 through the Full Disclosure programme

Call for Proposals

From 2003 to 2004, the Full Disclosure initiative supported retro-conversion and retrospective cataloguing projects.

£65,000 was issued to six projects in the 2003 Call:

1. Phase three of the Artists' Papers Register
Lead institution: Association of Art Historians
Award: £12,000

2. The Lincolnshire Grid
Lead institution: Lincolnshire County Council
Award: £15,000

3. Revelation Plus
Lead institution: CURL (Consortium of Research Libraries)
Award: £12,000

4. British Waterways Virtual Archive Catalogue
Lead institution: West Yorkshire Archive Service
Award: £8,500

5. Completion of the ESTC (English Short Title Catalogue) base file
Lead institution: The British Library
Award: £12,000

6. Retroconversion of the Winterbottom Catalogue
Lead institution: Durham University
Award: £8,000

£50,000 was issued to six projects in the 2004 Call:

1. Leeds Central Library's Rare Books Collection
Lead Institution: Leeds Library and Information Service
Award: £10,000

2. Newsplan West Midlands
Lead institution: Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council
Award: £10,000*

3. The Scottish Chapbooks Catalogue
Lead institution: National Library of Scotland
Award: £10,000

4. The Railway Drawings Microfilm Collection
Lead institution: National Railway Museum
Award: £10,000

5. The Urdu Collection
Lead institution: The Islamic Foundation
Award: £5,000

6. The 1950 Lions Tour of New Zealand
Lead institution: The Museum of Rugby
Award: £5,000

However, the cost of Full Disclosure - for all collections of all museums, libraries and archives to be catalogued online nationwide - is conservatively estimated to be £150,000,000.

Its purpose is to demonstrate the benefits of carrying out these projects. What valuable items have been discovered that previously weren't known about? What research has been carried out? How do the recently catalogued collections relate to other collections?
