David Barclay has 30 years’ experience in strategic corporate finance. He was a Royal Institution Australian Science Scholar in 1971, and studied Natural Sciences and English at Cambridge University. Initially joining the Civil Service, with a spell as Private Secretary in No10 Downing Street, he moved to NatWest Markets in 1985 and became its Head of Corporate Finance. In 1998 he joined Dresdner Kleinwort and held successive positions as Head of UK Corporate Finance, Head of European Corporate Finance, and Vice Chairman which he held until 2005. He is also Non-executive Deputy Chairman of John Lewis Partnership plc (since 2006) and a Non-executive Director of both Wessex Water Services Ltd (since 2005) and Wates Group (since 2012).
He is a member of both the Board Audit Committee and the Remuneration Committee.
