Dr Mike Lynch OBE

Dr Lynch was formerly the Chief Executive of Autonomy Corporation plc, the largest purely software company in Europe, having started it up in 1996 and building it into a FTSE100 company. He originally followed an academic career, becoming a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at Cambridge University Communications Laboratory, until in 1991 he began developing software commercially. The Confederation of British Industry named him its Entrepreneur of the Year in 1999. He is also a Trustee of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, an Advisory Board Member of Apax Partners, and holds non-executive director roles at the BBC, the Foundation of Science and Technology, Featurespace, and blinkx plc. He is a Board Member of Cambridge Enterprise and of the Royal Society 350th Anniversary Campaign Board, and a Council Member of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He belongs to the fundraising and Trustee boards of several educational charities, and was awarded OBE for services to Enterprise in 2006.
Dr Lynch was appointed to the BL Board for his extensive experience of the digital content industry.
Dr Lynch was granted a one-year sabbatical from his duties as a BL Board member with effect from 1 January 2012. Consequently, his term end-date has been extended to 25 January 2016.
He is a member of the Board Investment Committee.
