The text and image shown below should help you in coding your html links to our homepage. Paste the HTML code directly into your page.

Link to British Library website

<a href=""><img src="" width="36" height="68" alt="Link to British Library website" border="0"></a>

Linking to a specific page

When linking to pages deeper within the website we recommend the following approach:

  • Only link directly to HTML pages. If you wish to send users to a PDF file please link to the page containing the link to the PDF in question.
  • Where possible include the actual page title in the linking text used
e.g. Help for researchers (The British Library)
    <a href="">Help for researchers</a> (The British Library)
  • Do not link to pages that are part way through a business process such as a shopping basket, or pages resulting from a catalogue search or form submission as there is no guarantee that the information in the page will be the same for any returning users.

Linking to the website search and Explore the British Library

Please use the following code examples when linking to the website search page or Explore the British Library.

Search the British Library website for comprehensive information about the Library, its collections, and its services.
