This website will work with a wide range of browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Internet Explorer 10 and above as well as mobile versions.

Explore the British Library and some other areas of the site require JavaScript. Most browsers will have JavaScript enabled by default. You can also find instructions for enabling JavaScript in principal browsers.

 Linking to the website

We have produced a simple guide for adding links to the British Library website.

 Audio and video

Sound files on this site can be played by most web media players. The quality will vary depending on your connection speed to the internet. Linux users can play Windows Media (.wma) files with MPlayer. Please note that the quality of the sounds on our website does not necessarily reflect the quality of the originals in the British Library. Most videos can be played using standard web technology, but some require Adobe Flash.

 Interactive content

Some content (such as the Virtual Books) requires Adobe Flash, Shockwave or Microsoft Silverlight for the full experience. Where possible, we offer an HTML alternative, but note that some of the functionality of the original may be lost.

 Adobe PDF

This website includes PDF (Portable Document Format) files. To access them you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. You can also find out about the current accessibility features when using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

All pages are designed to be printer-friendly pages.
