LIBER Library Collection Security Conference

On 20 May 2008 the British Library hosted, with sponsorship from LIBER, the LIBER Library Collection Security Conference at the Conference Centre. The event was a huge success and was well attended by Library staff and colleagues from across the UK and abroad. Speeches covered a wide range of collection security issues and discussions were challenging and engaging.

The security of library collections is a critical factor in successful collection stewardship. Recent collection security incidents from major libraries around the world prove that now is a vital time to communicate new ideas and experiences in safeguarding collections. Library collections are there to be used, but how best to keep them safe?

The aim of this conference is to share information on market intelligence, technology watch, trend analysis and research into collection security. It will provide a forum to share experience in managing risks to library collections, investigating incidents and preventing loss. International speakers from law enforcement organisations and national libraries as well as leading academics have been invited.
