Internship and placements

The Collection Care department is committed to providing opportunities for study and skills development for students and professionals at various stages in their careers.

Where funds allow, we offer different types of training and learning opportunities across the department each year.

Environmental monitoring

Funded internship - conservation

If funding is available, we offer one funded internship in our conservation section each year. The aim of the internship is to provide an educational opportunity for a student who has graduated with a degree in conservation and who are seeking further training to develop their skills. Interns focus on conservation problems in a research library context and work on developing and carrying out conservation treatments on a range of materials in the collections.

Supported volunteer position – preventive conservation

If funding is available, we offer up to two volunteer positions in our preventive section each year. These three month positions provide an exciting opportunity for an individual currently working in a library or archive environment to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of the preventive conservation section of a busy national library. Each position is supported by a £8,000 stipend.
