Demonstrating public value
Demonstrating Value - a one-day conference held at the British Library on Monday 21 June 2004 - was organised to explore the innovative ways in which public and voluntary sector organisations can measure their value and demonstrate the benefits they deliver. The Library organised the conference in the wake of national and international interest in its ground-breaking economic impact assessment study (PDF format) - the first undertaken by a national library.
Public and voluntary sector institutions are increasingly being asked - by government, donors, and other funding bodies - to quantify the value they add and demonstrate value for money. But how can public and voluntary sector organisations measure their value and illustrate the benefits they deliver? How can they begin to measure their impact - those intangible cultural, social and environmental benefits - alongside more traditional input and output performance measures?
During the day economics experts and key staff from the UK's leading public sector organisations attempted to answer these questions, view the conference presentations to find out more. The day was chaired by Lord Eatwell, Chairman of the British Library and Professor of Financial Policy, University of Cambridge.
