Advice to Suppliers for delivery of goods and services to the British Library during the London 2012 Olympic Games
It can’t have escaped your notice that London will be hosting the Olympics this Summer. For the British Library located in 96 Euston Road, NW1 2DB in St Pancras, London, and to a lesser extent our address in Colindale, London, this will present some challenges, particularly to supply chains and we have some advice to help you prepare.
In St Pancras access is going to be particularly challenging for both vehicles and pedestrian traffic. St Pancras and King's Cross stations will form a transport hub for the Games, meaning that thousands of officials, journalists and other visitors will be boarding transport for departure to (and return from) Olympic venues each day during the competition period (27 July to 12 August 2012). It is understood that traffic restrictions may well begin as early as two weeks prior to the Opening Ceremony. We also expect things to be busy during the Paralympic Games in September (29 August to 9 September 2012 ).
LOCOG has published advice for businesses to help suppliers meet this challenge. The links below will take you to specific advice on making deliveries and on travel in the capital during the Games:
Transport for London ( TfL ) also has details to support businesses on likely travel disruption during this period :
We have advised our Contract Managers that:
- It’s clear that delivery vehicles are going to have a tough time making their regular deliveries – and not just in central London. We’ve advised our Contract Managers to stock up on essential non-perishable goods well in advance to last them through this period.
- Regular maintenance, servicing or installation activities (often scheduled during the summer months) may need to be re-scheduled to occur either before or after the Games period. We have advised our Contract Managers that many London businesses will be making these plans, so it’ll be important for them to talk to contractors and the sooner, the better
You are requested to be mindful of how the British Library may be affected and to start discussions with your Library Contract Managers where necessary about contingency plans as soon as possible.
