Enterprising Voices report

17/11/09

The British Library has just launched a report of candid interviews from entrepreneurs and SMEs on how the Government can pull the UK out of the recession. The report was made available on Monday, at the launch event for Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Enterprising Voices focuses on ten themes that impact on SMEs today. Entrepreneurs and industry experts have provided unique perspectives on each topic, offering their views on what will drive recovery and encourage new business to thrive. Key findings from the report include:

  • Business support – Government should focus on centralised rather than regional information support.

  • Funding – Encouraged banks to return to a more old fashioned approach, taking time to properly assess individual business propositions.

  • Tax relief – Start-ups need a genuine exemption from tax whilst they get up and running.

  • IP – A fast-track scheme for small businesses should be developed to help entrepreneurs protect their ideas.
