How to create a perfect business plan

01/12/11

Jane Khedair is a British Library partner who regularly runs How to write the perfect business plan at the Business & IP Centre. Recently, Jane held a seminar at the Business Startup Show on Friday 18 November 2011.

The seminar explained the best way to put together information for a business plan, whether you are starting up or looking to explore – and even fund – a new opportunity.

Here are 3 top tips taken from her seminar:

1.  Ask your prospective customers what ‘benefits’ they would want to enjoy from your product / service and focus on communicating these in your business plan rather than the ‘features’ of what you are or will be selling;

2. When researching who you will be selling to, don’t equate a large growing market with ease of gaining an unrealistic market share;

3. Ask your prospective customers who else they would buy from so that you can identify substitute products or services that you may otherwise overlook.
