Advice on business planning

The London Business Support Service offers one-hour surgeries with experts, all of whom have run their own business. 

Other organisations that can help include Centa, School for Startups and Enterprise Nation

We are also run regular webinars about Lean Startup which is an introduction in starting a business using the lean model. 

Advice on inventions

What next for your invention? Plan, protect or prototype is a monthly workshop run in the Centre that helps you assess what you need to do to make your product a reality. 

Ideas21 specialises in the commercialisation of ideas and intellectual property, and runs advice sessions on design and prototyping, intellectual property and licensing.

Advice in your area

Enterprise agencies are set up to support businesses in local areas, providing advice and training. You can find your local London enterprise agency on our Business Essentials wiki

Startup Britain also help to support startup businesses and often run events across the country. 

We are also working with libraries across the UK to replicate the Business & IP Centre in other cities. Find out where your nearest Centre is. 

Advice on legislation and procedures

If you are unsure about what you need to do in order to make your business a reality, Companies House and the HM Revenue & Customs both offer lots of advice including information on how to register a company and tax and VAT help. 

For Intellectual Property advice, the Intellectual Property Office can help with patents, trade marks, registered design and copyright. 

Mentoring and coaching

If you want in-depth support, or continued support, a coach or mentor can help. The UK's Affordable Mentors, Expert Impact and the Prince's Trust offer coaching and mentoring services, helping with everything from preparing your business plan to deciding if a business is right for you.

Business Support Helpline 

The Business Support Helpline is a telephone support line (0300 456 3565, 9am - 6pm Monday to Friday) for anyone starting or running a small or medium sized business. There is also useful information online as part of GOV.UK
