Advocacy, Evidence, Support
June-July 2010
With increased pressure on resources and many organisations facing funding cuts it can be difficult to make the case for long-term, core activities such as preservation. Most institutions want what preservation achieves: ensured continuity of access to collections. This series of five free in events in Edinburgh, Manchester, Aberystwyth, Dublin and London brought 152 librarians, archivists and conservators together to focus on the challenges of advocating for long-term collection care.
Morning sessions, led by the Preservation Advisory Centre, demonstrated how to make the case for preservation, both in terms of the outcomes it achieves and value to the organisation. Afternoon sessions were tailored to each location, highlighting examples of collaborative work, networks and support available for preservation and conservation activities.
