Decoding the digital:
a common language for preservation

27 July 2010

British Library Conference Centre, 96 Euston Road, London

This joint conference was organised by the Digital Preservation Coalition and the Preservation Advisory Centre. It looked to build on the communication between librarians, archivists, curators, conservators and digital preservation managers and establish a shared understanding of the issues surrounding the preservation of digital collections. How different are our approaches to the preservation of physical and digital collections?

The programme featured pairs of speakers talking about the creation, management, preservation and use of digital collections. One speaker from each pair explored how use and access shapes approaches to digital preservation, and the other looked at the same issue from a technological perspective. The conference provided an introduction for the uninitiated and gave those involved in the technological support of digital preservation an opportunity to learn how collections are developed and used.
