In 2006 the National Preservation Office published Knowing the need, a report on the emerging picture of preservation need in libraries and archives in the UK. Based on 97 individual surveys, representing over 28 million items, this was the first ever national survey of preservation need in the UK.
Since 2006, 100 new surveys have been completed, generating reams of additional data. Over the coming months statisticians from Loughborough University will help us analyse this data, and a new report will be published next spring. In addition to facts, figures and analysis, the report will include numerous case studies.
