Knowing the need and optimising the preservation of library and archive collections
This one day conference, held at the British Library on 1 March 2013, focussed on getting more bang for your buck in the management and application of preservation strategy. Through a combination of presentations and discussion sessions, the programme covered:
- Knowing the Need (PDF format 1.16MB) the launch of the second report on the state of preservation in libraries and archives in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
- Research into the value of special collections and how that value can be maximised.
- An investigation into the apparent lack of discrimination in the application of preservation strategies and the reasons for this.
- A challenge to decision-makers to be more selective in their decision making and prioritisation in order to optimise their preservation activity.
- Next steps for working together to improve the status quo.
