Working at the library
How the British Library inspires the world
With a global reputation for providing trusted and reliable information, we inspire over 350,000 Readers every year who visit our sites. And that's not all. By harnessing the power of advanced technologies, we inspire a range of people, from entrepreneurs, bio-chemists and fashion designers, to other libraries around the world.
From globally recognised experts and technical innovators to exceptional organisers and creative marketers, we employ passionate, diverse and forward-thinking people. Their commitment to advancing the world's knowledge means we also make a valuable contribution to society, both today and for future generations. It makes for a challenging and stimulating work environment, offering a range of jobs that are as varied and unique as our world-class collections.
Our values drive us as an organisation and form the basis for everything we do and the way we do it.
Departments at a glance
All our teams play a key role in our vision. Full of enthusiastic, dedicated experts and passionate, customer-focused individuals, they influence far more than the way we provide access to the world's information.
Our collections represent every culture in the world, so we're committed to employing people from equally diverse backgrounds.
Our locations are fully prepared to meet the challenges of the digital age, from our landmark St Pancras site, to Boston spa in West Yorkshire where half our staff are based.
School work experience placements
Each year the British Library offers a number of short, unpaid work opportunities to school students looking for a work experience placement as part of their curriculum.
Over the summer of 2013 the British Library will be advertising some paid internship positions.
