School work experience placements

Each year the British Library offers a number of short, unpaid work opportunities to school students looking for a work experience placement as part of their curriculum.

The placements are for one or two weeks and most take place in July or August. Placements at other times may also be possible, if your school organises its work experience at a different time.

We offer placements at both our St Pancras building in central London and our Boston Spa site near Wetherby, West Yorkshire.

Placements are available in a number of work areas of the Library but applications are to the placement programme, rather than to individual areas. However we will try to place applicants in areas that relate to their academic studies, interests or future plans; the application process gives you an opportunity to tell us about these.

Application process

Applications to the school work experience placements programme can only be made during the application period. The 2016 application period will be advertised in due course.

If there are more applications than places available, applicants will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. There is likely to be a lot of interest in placements so you are advised to apply as early in the application period as possible.

We look forward to hearing from you.
