Notes Full late 16th / early 17th century pigskin over wooden boards (320 x 212 x 109 mm), with the gold tooled (faded) initials of the owner H W K V K S (initials of Kress) above middle field, dated 1630; with armorial of Kress family in gold placed in diamond; sewn on 4 raised double cords; endbands present; 4 corner pieces present on > both covers; lance-shaped catch plates of 2 former hookclasp fasteners preserved (all metal pieces from Nuremberg).
