Notes Part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. In a contemporary brown morocco binding, tooled in gold and black, with black onlays, signed by Abich of Besancon. Macchi states; second quarter century, Besançon, bound by Albic. He was probably active about 1840, as Maggs Bros. Ltd., Catalogue 661, 243 refers to a contemporary binding by him on the Bourdin 1001 Nuits (1840). He affected a neat rocaille style, often on citron morocco. He styles himself Relieur Gainer, rue St. Paul 43 à Besançon on a half -calf binding in the C. Ramsden collection (French Bookbinders, p. 18). There is another signed binding (not digitised) by Abich at C152g2
