This part, originally a separate manuscript but bound together with three others, contains the Roman de Brut and Gaimar’s chronicle, Estoire des Engles. The title in red, somewhat faded, states ‘Ci commence le Brut ke meistre Wace translata de latin en franceis’ (Here begins the Brut that master Wace translated from Latin into French). The use of ‘ke’ for ‘que’ in French is a feature typical of the Anglo-Norman dialect.
