Written by Matthaios, hieromonk of the monastery of St Catherine, Mount Sinai, for the monk Pachomios, also of Sinai (colophon, f. 122). Note in Greek on the eclipse of the sun 22 April 1715. Philotheos, hieromonk, of Cyprus (?) (kepreos) (18th century inscription, f. 1). Caesar de Missy, Prussian New Testament scholar and chaplain to George III (b. s.1703, d. 1775), acquired in 1747 (inscription: 'Ex libris Caesaris De Missy, Berolinensis: Londini, Anno 1747', f. 1): his sale, 18 March 1776, lot 1643, bought by Mason. George Mason, writer and book collector (b. 1735, d. 1806). Charles Burney (b. 1757, d. 1817), D.D., classical scholar. Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney’s library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818. |
