Binding Post-1600. Brown leather of polished diced calf, rebacked, tooled on the edges of the binding.
Provenance Formerly bound with Burney 137, 272, and 352, which have similar scripts and the same annotator, with the same watermark as found in Burney 137 and 272 (f. 1); one of the texts in Burney 137 was written by 'Bolfgangus' (?) in 1473 (f. 60), and Burney 272 includes a charter in German dated Melk, Saint George's day 1399.
Included in the anonymous sale ĎA gentleman of taste: Manuscripts etc. purchased on late tour of the Continentí 1 May 1804, lot 69, (bound with Burney 137, 272, and 352, when the order of texts was Vergil, Cicero, Terence, Valla, bought by Charles Burney, D.D. (classical scholar (b. 1757, d. 1817).
Acquired by the British Museum as part of Burney's library from his son Charles Parr Burney in 1818.
