Provenance ? The church of St Kilian, Würzburg (see Gwynn 1952 p. 64).
The abbey of St James (St Jacob zu den Schotten), Würzburg by 1324, when the monk David added several inscriptions, including 'Notum facio quod ego frater David anno Domini mcccxxiiii iiii idus Iuni aprimo veni ad Herbipolim in habitus seculari' (f. 99v); 'Anno domini millesimo cccxxviii iii idus Decembris commisit mihi dominus abbas Condinunus ecleciam Sancti Iacobi extra Muros Herbipolenses [Würzburg] usque ad terminum xiii septimanarum' (f. 30); and other inscriptions (ff. 65v, 73v, 93v, 94).
Other added prayers, possibly also by David, dated 1328 or 1339 (f. 102v) (see Gwynn 1952 p. 75).
Inscribed 'Z147' and '14' (f. 1).
? Thomas Howard (b. 1585, d. 1646), 2nd earl of Arundel, 4th earl of Surrey, and 1st earl of Norfolk, art collector and politician.
Henry Howard (b. 1628, d. 1684), 6th duke of Norfolk, presented to the Royal Society in 1667.
The Royal Society, London: its ink stamp 'Soc. Reg. Lond / ex dono HENR. HOWARD / Norfolciensis.' (f. 1); its book-plate, with the pencil inscription 'XIV: 7.17 (f. ii).
Purchased by the British Museum from the Royal Society together with 549 other Arundel manuscripts in 1831.
