Written for a Dominican: Baruch is followed by a table or readings for the year, including the feasts of Peter Martry, Dominic and his translation, and Francis (ff. 217-219v). Used liturgically in the 13th century: the text is marked in the margins for daily readings, e.g. 'Feria secunda. lectio I' (f. 5), etc. Unidentified owner, 15th century: inscribed in German '… Georgij…' (f. 1). Unidentified owner, 15th century: inscribed in German 'Alt und Neu Testament / D Hieronimi A o' (f. 1v). ? Thomas Howard (b. 1585, d. 1646), 2nd earl of Arundel, 4th earl of Surrey, and 1st earl of Norfolk, art collector and politician. Henry Howard (b. 1628, d. 1684), 6th duke of Norfolk, presented to the Royal Society in 1667. The Royal Society, London (its ink stamp: 'Soc. Reg. Lond / ex dono HENR. HOWARD / Norfolciensis.', f. 2; its book-plate with the pencil inscription: ‘XIII.3.12’, f. [iv]). Purchased by the British Museum from the Royal Society of London together with 549 other Arundel manuscripts in 1831. |
