Decoration 4 full-page miniatures of Evangelist portraits in colours and gold (ff. 1v, 63v, 94v, and 131v), the first being a mid-14th century replacement. 5 large foliate patterned headpieces in colours and gold (ff. 1, 64, 95, 132, 238). 16 smaller foliate or patterned headpieces in colours and gold (ff. 65, 149, 164v, 166v, 191, 255, 263v, 282, 291v, 298, 310v, 303v, 308, 313v, 317, 324). Large initials in colours, many zoomorphic (including birds or fish), or including human figures or body parts, harpies, or vases. Large brown initials.

Binding BM/BL in-house. Blue leather, rebound in 1963.
Provenance ? The monastery of the Holy Trinity on the island of Chalce, Princes' Islands, in 1626.
Thomas Howard (b. 1585, d. 1646), 2nd earl of Arundel, 4th earl of Surrey, and 1st earl of Norfolk, art collector and politician; probably acquired by his agents Petty or Roe in 1626, along with Arundel 539 (see The Negotiations of Sir Thomas Roe, in his Embassy to the Ottoman Porte, from the year 1621 to 1628 inclusive (London: Samuel Richardson, 1740), p. 500).
Henry Howard (b. 1628, d. 1684), 6th duke of Norfolk, presented to the Royal Society in 1667.

Purchased by the British Museum from the Royal Society together with 549 other Arundel manuscripts in 1831.
