Official foliation ff. 437 (+ 2 unfoliated parchment flyleaves at the beginning and 1 unfoliated older paper and 2 unfoliated parchment flyleaves and a paper flyleaf at the end), the recto of the first and the verso of the last flyleaf are covered in silk
Collation 55 quires: i4 (ff. 1-4), ii-liv8 (ff. 5-428), lv10-1 (ff. 429-437). Quire numbering in Hebrew characters.
Form Parchement codex
Binding Post-1600. 18th-century Italian red velvet binding on wood boards, with copper centrepiece and cornerpieces and remains of clasps.
Provenance Note of birth: Joseph, the brother of a previous owner was born on 15 Nisan 5253 [1493] (f. 437).
Illegible Hebrew inscription (f. 1).
Prince Augustus Frederick (b. 1773, d. 1843), duke of Sussex: his armorial book-plate, inscribed (inner front cover); his sale 31 July 1844, lot 101: inscribed (f. 437v), purchased by the British Museum through Thomas Rodd the younger (b. 1796, d. 1849), bookseller for 41.
English inscription, 19th century: 'The date assigned to this MS by Mr Pettigrew (Bibl. Suss. i. p. xii. No. 2) and marked on the binding is erroneous and arises from his having mistaken the note at the end of the volume for the date of the copy whereas it refers only to the birthday of the son of a former possessor of the MS' (f. [438v]).
