7 large decorated initials in colours and gold, some with interwoven quadrupeds (dogs?) at Psalms 26, 38, 52, 68, 80, 97, 109 (ff. 65v, 102, 142, 193, 243v, 291, 333v); the initial for Psalm 1 added later or repainted (f. 1v). Large interlace initials in colours in combinations of red, green, yellow, and/or blue, some with animal heads, some unfinished (e.g. ff. 122v, 124v). Large initial in red with penwork decoration (f. 101v). Highlighting of letters in yellow, green, and/or red. Rubrics of Psalm text in red. Incipit in red and blue (f. 1v). Line-fillers in red and brown. |

Several erased ownership ? inscriptions on the flyleaves, and a note of the number of quires 'iii quarterniones sunt in hoc volumine' (f. 423). ff. i-ii and iv-v (at the end) are fragments of a 14th- or 15th-century large Itailian choirbook with 2 large blue initials with red penwork decoration (ff. ii, iv), and a red initial with blue penwork decoration (f. iv verso). Inscription of the date of 1308 (f. iii). Purchased from M. Tross of Paris, 17 October 1863 by the British Museum using the Bridgewater fund (£12,000 bequeathed in 1829 by Francis Henry Egerton, 8th Earl of Bridgewater (b. 1756, d. 1829). |
