Decoration 7 diagrams, including the palms of hands relating to the cycles of the sun and the moon, stylised crosses, and geometric shapes (ff. 2v, 4, 5v, 6, 49, 49v, 51). 6 architectural frames of a rounded arch framing a blank space (ff. 16v, 18v, 20v, 24v (unfinished), 29v, 36v). Foliate headpieces in colours with birds and plants on gold grounds (ff. 54, 80). Other foliate, woven, or geometric headpieces (ff. 12, 16, 18, 20, 24, 117v, 119, 133v, 148) in colours. Large zoomorphic initials, usually of birds in blue and red, or blue, red, and green. Large red or brown initials, many of or with foliate forms, some with other colours. Small red or brown initials. Knotted decorative forms.

Provenance Written mainly by Sebastianos Argyropoulos, the Metropolites of Ephesus, in 1573 (ff. 2-54v, 79v, 147v, 158v-160, 164-173v, 180-185v, 191-210, 211-223v), and marginalia (ff. 54-79, 80-147, 148-157v, 161-163v, 174-179v, 186-190) (colophon, f. 223; see Gamillscheg and Harlfinger 1981 no. 360); an impressions of the Greek seal of Athanasius, Metropolites of Ephesus: ff. 4v, 6v, 7v; his monogram (ff. 11v, 201, 203), and name (ff. 47, 185v).
Chatze Kyriakou, sceuophylax of Smyrna (his inscription, f. 215v).
Crossed out Latin inscription dated 1675 (f. 2).
Joseph Ames (b. 1689, d. 1759), bibliographer and antiquary (book-plate, f. 1v): his sale, 5 May 1760, lot 348, possibly bought by Askew with lot 347 for 5s 6d.
