Provenance Piero Michiel, Venetian nobleman and governor during the dogate of Pietro Loredan (1567-1570); his arms (f. 13); inscribed 'Nos Petrus Lau / retano dei gra[tia] / Dux Venetiarum e[t]c[etera] / Committimus a te nobel homo Piero Michi / el diletto fedel nostro che debbi andar in / nostro Podesta di Montona / regendo essa terra, et gli homeni habitanti in / quella con tutte le sue pertinentie, et con / buona fede a nostra honor et dil comun di / Venetia dal giorno che entrarai in essa ter / ra fin mesi Trentadoi et tanto piu fin che / vi giongera il tuo successor havendo il pa / gamento dil tempo che starai di piu per / rata al qual qual tuo successor darai conto de / tutte li entrate et spese che saranno, over / saranno state tutto il tempo del tuo reggi / mento, et di tutto quello che lascierai in / commun cosi in denari, come in ogni altra...' (f. 13v).
Charles Stuart, baron Stuart de Rothesay (b. 1779, d. 1845), diplomatist: his sale 31 May 1855, lot 2258/2 (f. 13v); lot purchased for £3 3s by the British Museum, according to an annotated Western Manuscripts departmental copy of the sale catalogue.
Notes Italian cutting.
The present leaf is one of 33 leaves and cuttings purchased by the British Museum at the de Rothesay sale in 1855.
It is boxed with Add. 20916, ff. 10-12, and 14-17.
