Provenance Deed whereby Henry VIII, in view of his marriage with Lady Anne, sister of William, duke of Juliers, Gueldres, Cleves, etc., grants to her, in part satisfaction of dower and jointure, the manors of Waltham Magna, Maysbury, Dunmowe, Lighes Magna, Baddowe Magna, and Farneham, co. Essex, as formerly held by Jane [Seymour], late Queen, and worth yearly 312 marks 8 sh. 1.25 d., to hold the same for her life, after marriage, provided she dwells within the realm of England; Greenwich, 5 January, 31 Henry VIII, 1539[40]; signed by the king; with a fragment of seal of the Duchy of Lancaster (see Catalogue of Seals, I, no. 733 p. 87), appended by green and white plaited silk ribbons.
Bought by the British Museum, using the Farnborough Fund (3,000 bequeathed in 1838 by Charles Long, Baron Farnborough (b. 1761, d. 1838), a cousin of Francis Henry Egerton, 8th Earl of Bridgewater (b. 1756, d. 1829), founder of the collection.
