John William Burgon (b. 1813, d. 1888), dean of Chichester and biblical scholar: inscription 'Liber Johannis Guilielmi Burgon S. T. B. Decani Cicestr. AD. 1875' (f. i verso).
Rev. W. F. Rose, vicar of Worle: described by Burgon in the Guardian, 19 July, 1882, and collated by Rose, bought in 1893 by the British Museum, using the Bridgewater fund (£12,000 bequeathed in 1829 by Francis Henry Egerton, 8th Earl of Bridgewater (b. 1756, d. 1829).
