Decoration 2 large miniatures in colours and gold with full trompe l'oeil or foliate borders (ff. 11, 67), and 5 one-column miniatures with partial borders (ff. 32, 49v, 102, 126, 200, 269), all with initials in colours and gold, at the beginning of books.1 large added miniature in colours and gold, at the beginning of book 12 (f. 11). Initials in gold with black pen-flourishing, or in blue with red pen-flourishing. Book numbers in blue with red pen-flourishing. Line-fillers in blue and gold.

Binding Post-1600. Royal Library brown-leather binding with the royal arms of England and a date of 1757; and gilt edges.
Provenance Jean du Ries of Bruges, written by him: his signature with a date of 25 May 1482, 'Escript par moy Jo. du ries et finy a bruges le xxve iour de may. Anno 1482' (f. 294v).
Edward IV (b. 1442, d. 1483), king of England and lord of Ireland, probably made for him: the royal arms of England (vol. 1: Royal 15 E II, f. 7).
?Shelfmark of a very large number in brown ink (Carley's 'Old Large Number') '103' (f. [ii]).
The Old Royal Library (the English Royal Library): included in the list of books at Richmond Palace of 1535, no. 55; and in the catalogue of 1666, Royal Appendix 71, f. 15.
Presented to the British Museum by George II in 1757 as part of the Old Royal Library.
Notes Second of two volumes: Volume I is Royal 15 E II.
Contains 'De propreitatibus rerum' of Bartholomaeus Anglicus translated in French, in 1372 by Jean Corbechon as the 'Livre des proprietez des choses' for Charles V, king of France.
According to Kren and McKendrick 2003, partially illuminated by an assistant of the Master of the Flemish Boethius (ff. 32, 102, 126), with 2 miniatures by the Master of Edward IV (ff. 200, 269). The miniature at the beginning of book 12 (f. 11) was added later (between 1482 and c.1490) by an artist known as the Master of 1482.
Catchwords written vertically and bifolium signatures. Foliation in red beginning on f. 11.
