Binding Post-1600. Red leather, gold- tooled with the arms of George I or II, and the added initials 'GR III'; gilt edges; pink silk endpapers.
Provenance Henry Reppes (d. 1558), of Mendham, Suffolk: inscribed by him 'Henry Reppes / Elizabeth Reppes' (his first wife) (f. 1); the inclusion of a miniature of Eltheldreda (f. 64v) is consistent with an East Anglian patron.
Inscribed by Anne Boleyn (f. 66v), and King Henry VIII (f. 231v).
King George I (b. 1660, d. 1727), and/or King George II (b. 1683, d. 1760): arms on binding.
King George III (b. 1738, d. 1820).
Given to the British Museum by King George IV in 1823 as part of the library of King George III.
Notes Although inscribed by both Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, this manuscript was probably not owned by them; the use of Tudor Books of Hours to preserve royal autographs is also witnessed by Additional 17012, which contains the autographs of Henry VII, Elizabeth of York, Henry VIII, and Catherine of Aragon.
