This is an obituary notice, but also a celebration of the battery Cesare Battisti. Battisti (1875-1916) was a socialist member of the Austrian Parliament, but in 1914 he flew to Italy to fight in the Italian army. He was captured and put on trial, making him a hero for Italians. Although Battisti was a socialist, many nationalist politicians such as Giovanni Giurati (1876-1970), who became members of the National Fascist Parties in the 1920s, used the memory of Battisti for their own purposes.
