The Battle of Borjimow, Poland
This picture shows hand-to-hand fighting between the Germans and Russians over Borjimow in Poland in December 1914. Although the artist wanted to create individual faces, they all look very similar, especially the two German soldiers in the centre, on the right-hand side of the wheel. The small print on the left-hand side of the picture confirms that it was approved by the military censors on 18 December 1914; this is followed by the name of the printing house and its address in Moscow. Publishers could also print their own productions, but in this case the publisher and printer are different establishments, and the publisher’s name and address is listed on the right-hand side of the picture.
