Buildings destroyed by bombardment in Venice


This photograph shows a historic building destroyed by the bombing of Venice. The first bombing took place on 24 May 1915, the day of Italian entry into the war. Another 41 bombings were to follow with a total of 1,029 bombs dropped, resulting in 52 dead and 84 injured.

Il Mondo was a weekly publication that focused on politics and culture, printed in Rome between 1949 and 1966.
