This is the necrology, obituary notice, of Francesco Baracca (1888-1918). He was a hero of the Italian air force, who died in battle only a few months before the end of the war. By the time of this obituary the air force was seen as the new cavalry of the skies, so officers such as Baracca were held in high esteem, deemed gentlemanly and chivalrous fighters.
