This photograph shows women working in a large ball bearings factory. It was published in Le Donne d'Italia Nelle Industrie di Guerra, which translates as The Contribution of Women to the War Industry. World War One drastically changed existing social structures. Women became involved in war production and subjected to backbreaking work under strict military discipline.
