Portrait of Mr Punch

Description

In this portrait acquired by the publishers of Punch magazine, instead of his usual clownish costume, Mr Punch looks almost aristocratic in a Regency red-velvet smoking jacket. Punch cartoonist Leonard Raven-Hill painted him as ‘a shrewd, kindly old gentleman with a twinkle in his eye, but easily roused to wrath at any form of injustice.’
