This postcard shows the retreat, on foot, by the Serbian army and civilians through the harsh winter mountains of Montenegro, during the winter of 1915-1916. On its way through this region, the army lost its ox carriages, together with artillery, because it was impossible to use such transport in these conditions.
Russian war photographer and artist Samson Tchernof recorded the retreat, capturing the various hardships the army and civilians had to endure.
