The selected postcards depict different types of war propaganda.
The first two, printed in France, are part of a larger set. Allied countries are represented as butterflies while the Central Powers and their allies are shown as different types of insects. Allied, Entente, states are depicted as women while the Central Powers are shown as men. In these two cards the butterfly Montenegro confronts the beetle Turkey.
The third postcard shows a young woman, representing Serbia. Her clothes are torn but she appears to be armed and running into battle, with the war cry ‘revenge or death’ printed in French at the bottom.
