Il Mulo, The Mule, is a clerical satirical newspaper founded in 1907 as a Catholic response to L’Asino, The Donkey. Il Mulo often contained polemics against socialists and Freemasons. During the war it reflected the neutral position of the Catholic Church. After the war it supported the beginnings of fascism, but soon opposed the regime. Il Mulo censured the fascist murders of the socialist deputy Giacomo Matteotti and of the anti-fascist Giovanni Minzoni and was suppressed in 1925.
