This is an etching of a trench filled with dead soldiers. It is the work of Henry de Groux (1886-1930), a Belgian symbolist painter and sculptor. Images of the war in the newspapers made a deep impression on de Groux. The things he saw and his own experiences urged him to create a series of drawings, etchings and lithographic prints about the atrocities of the conflict.
