This is a particularly dense
design, identical on both covers, blocked on purple sand grain cloth. The elaborate border
pattern is matched by the prominent criss-cross of diamonds on the inner corners, with flowers
blocked in hatch gold within each diamond. The strapwork is zoomorphic, terminating in the heads
of birds, whose beaks grip the straps. Although they look straightforward, the central medallion
and the roundel containing the sub-title are fine examples of the sophisticated work of the
engravers who cut the block.
