The success
of the illustrated publication of Dickens's novels in shilling monthly
parts was a powerful influence on the production of cheap fiction
for the poor. This penny imitation of Pickwick Papers has
high quality illustrations, here in an unusual format, by Charles
Jameson Grant (fl. 1830-46), best known for his political satires.
Other, cruder, Grant figures are also found in T. P. Prest's plagiarisms
of Dickens.
