The French Revolution collections in the British Library

Audrey C. Brodhurst

Abstract

IN 1899 there was printed 'by order of the Trustees of the British Museum' a small edition of a modest guide entitled List of the contents of the three collections of books, pamphlets and journals in the British Museum relating to the French Revolution. Its compiler was G. K. Fortescue, then the Senior Assistant Keeper, but later in the same year appointed Keeper of Printed Books. The preface, by the Keeper to whom Fortescue succeeded, Richard Garnett, is an appropriate introduction to the subject.
