Day's Service Book,1560-1565
Howard M. Nixon
THE period of gestation of this article has been truly elephantine. I first became interested in Day's Service Book in 1934 when working in the Westminster Abbey Library and I solved-to my own satisfaction-the main problem which it presents over twenty years ago. Its publication has, however, been delayed by my preoccupation with writing about the history of bookbinding, by my fear of betraying my ignorance of the insides of books, and finally by a tendency to amuse myself by trying it out as a testing-ground for different methods of bibliographical proof.
