The Evanion Collection
Elizabeth Harland
Abstract
IN 1895 the British Museum's Department of Printed Books acquired a collection of ephemeral material relating to the nineteenth-century entertainment world and contemporary life in general. It was purchased from a man who had been a moderately successful conjuror and ventriloquist but now in his old age had fallen into distressed circumstances, Henry Evans Evanion.
